USUI REIKI

Traditional Usui Reiki Training

Renew your life force energy through the healing touch of Reiki

REIKI, pronounced “Ray-Kay”, meaning “Universal” (REI) & “Life Force” (KI)

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. Reiki is “spiritually guided life forces energy.” This ancient art is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.

Reiki is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.  If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The mind exists not only in the brain but also throughout the body. The nervous system extends to every organ and tissue in the body and so the mind exists here also. Because of this, it is more appropriate to call our mind a mind/body as the mind and body are so closely linked.  The places where negative thoughts and feelings collect is where  Ki is restricted in its flow.  The physical organs that exist at these locations are restricted in their functioning, which allows illness to manifest.

What happens in a Reiki session?

The receiver is fully dressed in comfortable clothing, on a massage table or seated while the healer holds his/her hands on or above them.  There is no pressure on the body making it ideal for treating all ages and conditions.  The client usually experiences deep relaxation, tingling, warmth, pulsing throughout the body and a total sense of well being.

How it is done

Reiki utilises specific techniques for restoring and balancing the natural life force energy within the body.  It is a holistic, natural hands-on energy system that touches on all levels:  Mind, Body & Spirit.   Medical science has shown that all living creatures maintain electrochemical processes in their bodies – energy centres.  These energy fields are measured in common medical diagnostic practice by such instruments as MRI’S and electrocardiograms.

Every experience in life affects your physical body & energetic systems, negative or positive, the environment, your thoughts, people and even the food we eat. The positive experiences support you, just the opposite with the negative experiences and negative thought patterns. They can manifest in your physical body as illness, emotional issues, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.

Health Benefits

The healing touch of Reiki offers countless benefits to Mind, Body & Spirit. Guided by the Higher Intelligence, it knows exactly where to go and how to respond to restrictions in the flow of Ki. Some of the benefits of Reiki are:

  • Increases energy and vitality
  • Effective on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels
  • Loosens blocked energy
  • Adjusts itself according to the need of the recipient
  • Supports the body’s natural ability to heal itself
  • Relieves pain
  • Reduces stress and promotes a state of total relaxation
  • Creates inner harmony and awareness
  • Promotes calmness and serenity
  • Works on emotional and mental disorders
  • Promotes a loving and gentle spirit
  • Complements and enhances the effects of other therapies

Mikao Usui developed Usui Reiki Ryoho, the most current form of Reiki, in 1922. However, people have practised Reiki for about 2,500 years. People also refer to Reiki as palm healing or hands-on healing.

Becoming a Reiki practitioner

No prior training, education, or experience is necessary to enter the Reiki training or “attunement process.”

In this process, the Reiki master reportedly transfers the attunement energy and healing techniques to the student.

Reiki training varies, but most students learn about:

  • the energies around the body
  • how to work with healing energy
  • the ethics of working with clients

There are three levels of mastery. Those who reach “Master” level can teach others and can reportedly heal from a distance.

Summary

Reiki is a complementary form of energy therapy. Advocates believe that there is an energy field around the body and that disrupting it can lead to ailments. Reiki therapy aims to remedy these disruptions and the subsequent conditions.

In Reiki treatment, practitioners will place their hands over various parts of a person’s body and transfer healing energy.

During a session, practitioners may focus their energy on the sources of specific conditions. Typically a single treatment session will last 45–90 minutes.

Research has not shown Reiki to have any direct healing properties. However, some clients claim that Reiki helped reduce stress and anxiety when they used it as a complementary treatment.
